Clinging to false heroism and terrified of anything too dark, The Mechanic is a tough-guy movie for wimps.. Quirky details of character, implied but unstated background and lovely performances keep us enthralled.. A yawn, and the two glamour boys (who, by the way, look awful) are both snoring.. It remains first and foremost an involving story about its characters..
